Wanna sing/write your own melody?

Everyone has a personal self song tune hiding in their soul.

Here’s an upbeat backing track I put together a while back. Started off with the Bass guitar riff over that GarageBand library drum beat and the whole thing started its journey from there. Added little various keyboard melodies on the AKAI and plugged an electric guitar into a really cheap audio interface. It was all I could afford at the time. It has a certain charm in its capture of rough sounding fuzz from guitar chords.

I never really used this idea for a full song to develop.

I found it today, hidden deeply in a bunch of files. So, as I had headphones on whilst listening, it got me smiling and I started Dad, or actually in reality…creaking Grand-Dad, dancing around and singing nonsense words involving ‘It’s always great when the Sun comes out and blows your mind’ type joyfulness …. whilst creating tunes from out of nowhere. Yes, we had sunshine today.

A thought arrived. I wonder what my blogging friends would creatively put over this chirrup-y music. What inner soul song exists in their minds getting ready to spring out and present to the world.

So…..here you go. You can do what you like over it. Scream, shout, yelp, whoop out loud, sing a lift-you-up-out-of-the-doldrums-melody, a beautiful fun filled melody, howl like a wolf or be-bop a Lula …….. anything that suddenly comes to mind.

As long as it brings a smile hey!

Doubt a ballad would work though!

    1. 😄 Cheers Bryan. WordPress have started throwing a FaceBook timeline and stating ‘This time a year or two years ago you posted…..’. It’s a strange thing when you don’t remember these posts. But funnily? Today I got a post written two years ago about starting up my ‘studio’ in The Den. It wasn’t as busy as it is now equipment wise. But in truth, I have only added or changed a couple of pieces of equipment since those days. I have added a Tascam mixing desk (mainly to use in the VeeDub Bus as I can capture a decent quality sound) and swapped the Audio Interface from a cheap one to a better one.

I think the thing is Bryan, without technical knowledge, I need to keep it fairly simple and constant. Better in keeping what I understand and am used to. I haven’t used the Tascam mixing desk at all yet. The AKAI MIDI keyboard captures loads of sounds within the GarageBand set up. But I know the Tascam will be really useful to go on the move with the VeeDub.

Have you considered getting one? I reckon you would love the possibilities it offers. You have those headphones too which can be used for recording. I’ve seen them on eBay at really reasonable prices nowadays. Here’s a link to a YouTube upload regarding how they can capture songs. To be honest, there are lots of uploads in fact.

Yes, my week’s been chilled thanks. Hope you have had a great week too. 🙏🏽🍁🍂

  1. I feel you on everything. All the pictures look great, definitely makes me want to put something similar together. I have other things currently my money is going towards but hopefully in about year I’ll be in a better position. My week has been chill too. I appreciate ya. Have a good one 😎🎧

    1. That sounds good. Retirement has made me look at the finances closely as a pensioner. So, I did find, eventually, that choosing wisely was the best practice. My brother always told me ‘Buy once, Cry once’. I initially bought stuff that quickly didn’t match what was needed.

A very good example of my limitations though is choice regarding the recording App platform. I’ve recorded everything on GarageBand, which is a whole different higher level on the Mac M2 computer. On an iPad or iPhone it simply would not compare. GarageBand is also a free platform. Apple’s Logic Pro, which professionals use in studios, was once a total one price buy purchase option. Now, you have to subscribe and pay a monthly fee. I haven’t done that yet because I believe my skills are very basic. But if I met someone who could mix, engineer and maybe even produce a better sound on my songs, I would go for it.

I just work with what I feel capable in handling skills wise. GarageBand is my comfort zone.

I don’t think I will upload and ‘share’, as Facebook says, the blog from 25th September 2024 that WordPress reminded me of. But if you want to find it, the title is ‘The Home Music Studio Recording Equipment’. It may give you some insights into how I tackled getting the system up initially. It has photographs too.

      Cheers Bryan. 🙏🏽🍁🍂

  2. Love the idea Gray. On my radio show we had a segment put your own harp on it. We had Steve Williams (John Farnham Band) in the studio helping with ideas and licks. On one occasion I had a blues band in from South Australia, ‘Lazy Eye’ playing a live set. When they played a 12 bar blues instrumental they introduced the song to the listeners as put your own harp on it and the song key. 🤩🎶🎺👏🏻 S

    1. That sounds like a brilliant vibe Shep. When my brother was jamming with his work colleagues a fair few years ago, one of the employees at his works blew on the harp. I think I’ve mentioned him before to you. He had a belt full of different ones. Only played the one session, but my brother said it was absolutely brilliant. Just made up his own melodies over the rock songs. Love spontaneity.

I imagined it akin to Billy Preston completely changing the vibe for the better on the Let it Be recording sessions. 🙏🏽🍁🍂
