Paul McCartney’s albums recently acquired. Still awaiting a couple more CD albums below. But these in the above photograph have arrived over the last three days. Flowers in the Dirt I already had.

It was remiss of me to call myself a Beatles fan, and not have Paul’s later work. I have every Solo/Wings album on vinyl from over the years. But then let it slide on moving here to Wales 30 years ago. Why? I have an idea in hindsight. Money to buy luxuries probably, as it was very much lacking. Couldn’t afford to splash out when visitors loomed and additional food bought and visiting the local ‘tourist’ centres which required entry fees. Our true luxuries though, over those initial couple of decades, was actually having family and friends consistently visit. And we were all enjoying the wonderful beach and countryside existence.
Music played at night, whilst relaxing and chatting, was from our collective loves of past fave songs. They linked to the memories within a history of meals, drinks and nights together in each others’ homes back in Coventry. Back to here in Wales? In 2006 the staff nurse training and subsequent profession was so busy, it hit the gravity button and we all fell to earth. Less visits for both myself to the local beach, woods, rivers, lakes and hillsides and for friends and family too.
Retirement has been ace, especially over the last year, with being more drenched in listening to and playing music.

So yesterday was ‘first up listening’ to the chosen CD as ‘First Up Choice’. I was interested in listening to this collaborative ‘III Imagined’ album before settling into the songs from the original McCARTNEY III Rockdown album. This ‘McCartney III IMAGINED’ took me on a huge departure from the familiar. All tracks reimagined alongside fellow artists and friends from the songs recorded by Paul in, as said, Rockdown. No Beatles or Paul familiar recognised sound here on this one. This 2021 album is experimentation. When Paul sings, of course it settles the senses into familiar territory. He sings on a fair few. Also, his genius in creating melody is always going to break through. It’s the vibe of the backing music style on many tracks that is in an arena of the totally unfamiliar to Summers’ land. I don’t listen to these type of vibes in music. However. Two plays in and it has some great tracks that are settling in and warming the senses. They will become welcome future visitors. Maybe more will grow to be liked on subsequent listens.

There are YouTube uploads of this album. Well worth a visit. Today, it will be another listen and then Paul’s III (Rockdown) album being listened to. Then back to my own recording music.
I’m recording some of my songs presently. So have to avoid huge ‘box set’ scenarios. Whether TV, current books or CD pile ups. But it’s always good to know you can sit for an hour or two with an episode of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ or ‘The Rings of Power’, a Paul album or read a few chapters from your current book. Maybe even a walk in those great outdoors. Or a jaunt in the VeeDub Bus. Well……after the housework chores!
Most excellent collection…one of my first records was Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey by Paul & Linda..what was a real bonus was the flip side Too Many People…happy listening Gray. S

Cheers Shep. Looking forward to catching up. Ram is such a great album. Uncle Albert was the crossroads between the old Beatles quirks and laying the foundations for Band on the Run. Linda was an amazing contributor to Paul’s music vibe. I was obsessed with Band on the Run. Listened to that album during a long hot summer. Glorious days. All the best S. and good fortune from G.

I had no idea about Paul’s later work, Gray! I will give a listen on YouTube. I hear you about how we had so little time for simply enjoying life with friends and family during our working years (and I imagine you worked long extended days while nursing). As an IT tester I worked some 16 hour days and that was enough for me! I also worked some weekends (with no breaks over 2 or 3 weeks) during my last year of government contract writing (at my last job). It was ridiculous!
We are here to enjoy. I am so glad you are enjoying now. And completing your Sir Paul collection. Sweet!

Yes. 16 hour days were my full time staff nurse experience too. And the Master’s University coursework was heavy too. As a student, alongside three times a year hospital and community placements, were the medical essays. It’s why the visitors dwindled quickly. Sounds like you have had a full working life when reading your past blogs. All your parents’ influences on you learning skills when growing up too. I’ve been on GB today, so not any time for listening to the other CDs yet.
I love John, George and Ringo solo years too. But Paul is my all time fave. Cheers Sheila.

Oh, wow, Gray! All that coursework along with community placements and medical essays! No wonder you were sooo ready to retire! I know my sister-in-law was ready too! She has no desire to go back or even study anything health related anymore. It must be a real grind!
Yes, my parents taught me a LOT about how to live a diverse and frugal life, build a business, document everything, etc. My mom worked in banking and insurance, but later at a pottery plant, a grocery store (selling meat at the meat counter), and cleaned rich people’s condos. She did it ALL! She also kept books for my dad and I scanned many of her intricate ledger pages. She also kept diary pages of their life. I could write a movie about them!
Anyway, I love all the fab four and think you would have fit nicely into their group. That’s how high in esteem I hold you and your music.

Nursing was really stressful and did take its toll on my health. So it was easy to retire. A huge relief.
I remember reading your past blogs regarding your really interesting life. It’s great regarding how it cemented your life skills. The experiences never leave you.
The Beatles are a forever presence. It was so good watching the Get Back 6 hours film. It impacted more than I realised. Their interactions and how they developed songs. Marc Bolan did the same when listening to his home recordings. Just so raw, but so insightful. 180 songs of testing the waters to development. That’s what makes you confident in sharing the ‘warts and all’ scenario I do. Thank you for your last comment. I believe in a band that the synergy provides unlooked for outcomes. Motivated and inspired by others leads to achieving what you could never believe you’re capable of. But the Beatles meeting up and working together were one of those amazing lucky moments in life.

I sooo agree, Gray (about so many things, sharing warts and all, life experiences that never leave us, etc.)
And that the Beatles are indeed a forever experience. Thank you always for your kindness.

Got to love a Paul collection Destiny. Make sure when you retire you don’t get tempted to return! They asked me to go on the Nursing Bank Register. Nope. Best decision ever. In 2 years I will be 70. Life is for relaxing too Destiny. All the best. 🙏🏽

I don’t know, like, any of this stuff. it’s beautiful to see the collection anyway, just knowing how many lives this music has touched and gladdened, comforted and consoled. there’s one song of his someone requested a few weeks ago, and maybe now I’ll go and learn it.

I sang a few Beatles songs when I took the acoustic into the Day Hospital. Very similar to what you do cookie. They all went down really well. You can’t choose just one that works, because they all work. You can’t go wrong. The songs are simply timeless.
I want to learn Mamunia from the Band on the Run album. Just because it just this second came to mind as I am typing. Instant melodies you see.
The collection of these CDs are expanded with Beatles CDs and vinyl too. Thank you cookie.
