Paul’s Music.

The recent collective to be listened to.

Paul McCartney’s albums recently acquired. Still awaiting a couple more CD albums below. But these in the above photograph have arrived over the last three days. Flowers in the Dirt I already had.

It was remiss of me to call myself a Beatles fan, and not have Paul’s later work. I have every Solo/Wings album on vinyl from over the years. But then let it slide on moving here to Wales 30 years ago. Why? I have an idea in hindsight. Money to buy luxuries probably, as it was very much lacking. Couldn’t afford to splash out when visitors loomed and additional food bought and visiting the local ‘tourist’ centres which required entry fees. Our true luxuries though, over those initial couple of decades, was actually having family and friends consistently visit. And we were all enjoying the wonderful beach and countryside existence.

Music played at night, whilst relaxing and chatting, was from our collective loves of past fave songs. They linked to the memories within a history of meals, drinks and nights together in each others’ homes back in Coventry. Back to here in Wales? In 2006 the staff nurse training and subsequent profession was so busy, it hit the gravity button and we all fell to earth. Less visits for both myself to the local beach, woods, rivers, lakes and hillsides and for friends and family too.

Retirement has been ace, especially over the last year, with being more drenched in listening to and playing music.

So yesterday was ‘first up listening’ to the chosen CD as ‘First Up Choice’. I was interested in listening to this collaborative ‘III Imagined’ album before settling into the songs from the original McCARTNEY III Rockdown album. This ‘McCartney III IMAGINED’ took me on a huge departure from the familiar. All tracks reimagined alongside fellow artists and friends from the songs recorded by Paul in, as said, Rockdown. No Beatles or Paul familiar recognised sound here on this one. This 2021 album is experimentation. When Paul sings, of course it settles the senses into familiar territory. He sings on a fair few. Also, his genius in creating melody is always going to break through. It’s the vibe of the backing music style on many tracks that is in an arena of the totally unfamiliar to Summers’ land. I don’t listen to these type of vibes in music. However. Two plays in and it has some great tracks that are settling in and warming the senses. They will become welcome future visitors. Maybe more will grow to be liked on subsequent listens.

There are YouTube uploads of this album. Well worth a visit. Today, it will be another listen and then Paul’s III (Rockdown) album being listened to. Then back to my own recording music.

I’m recording some of my songs presently. So have to avoid huge ‘box set’ scenarios. Whether TV, current books or CD pile ups. But it’s always good to know you can sit for an hour or two with an episode of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ or ‘The Rings of Power’, a Paul album or read a few chapters from your current book. Maybe even a walk in those great outdoors. Or a jaunt in the VeeDub Bus. Well……after the housework chores!
