Day and Night. Brighter audio results.

Only used for the cardioid Shure MV5 microphone up to now.

The M-Audio Crystal Pre-Amp interface (photograph above) that the cardioid Shure MV5 microphone is usually plugged into was used differently this afternoon. Due to buying the TONOR pre amp microphone booster (photograph below) for my old 1970s Shure SM58 dynamic microphone (which now plugs into the M-Audio) I experimented with the guitars in this interface for the first time. This afternoon I plugged my Bass guitar directly through the M-Audio and then the Vintage SG 6 string electric guitar too. This after recording the Bass first. An experiment to record guitars on an interface with an internal crystal pre amp booster and see if they felt brighter sounding for guitar use.

Well, in a nutshell, I had a great big smile on my face when hearing the clarity. The cheap as chips interface I usually use for guitars recording sounds extremely muddy and very poor.

BRIGHTER SOUNDING TIMES AHEAD…….YAY.

A quickly written song ditty to experiment with guitar sound. Written on the hoof this afternoon.

So now it will be good to get a decent guitar clarity. I just have to make sure they are all tuned properly before recording next time…..and played properly with no bum notes. I was too excited with the clarity of sound produced to bother with such considerations. Silly me! But remember you lovely people….I’m a bass player.

😊

Bass is in my core recognised inherent Chakra. The rest is ‘Out There’. But fathomable.

Four strings have taken years to get control of. Six strings! Nirvana unleashed and no idea of how to control the reins to wheel them in.

But at least you get an idea of how clear the guitar sound can get now using an interface with pre amp booster technology.

Below is my microphone pre amp booster.

THE TONOR PRE AMP BOOSTER ABOVE ENHANCES THE SOUND OF MY DYNAMIC 1970s SHURE SM58 MICROPHONE SOUND.

Interestingly on the song ditty below, you can hear the muddiness of the electric guitar sound as used through the old cheap as chips interface without a booster. Interesting comparison when holding the sound up to the recording above.

THE DIFFERENCE IS DAY AND NIGHT.

STARS ABOVE THE DUNES….. VARIOUS ELECTRIC GUITARS AND MY BASS GUITAR GOING THROUGH THE CHEAP AUDIO INTERFACE.
THE M-AUDIO ABOVE, WITH AN INTERNAL PRE AMP BOOSTER, CAN BE USED NOW FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR CLARITY.

    1. Thank you Sheila. I know it’s ad hoc playing, but it was really nice to hear the difference in sound in the headphones. Shocked I suppose. I’ve just ordered a really cool Tascam Model 12 mixer off Amazon today. It can be used in a fair few ways. For home recording, interface and live gigs too. More even. Here on Tuesday. So it seems that going at this music malarkey full on now, with purpose and intent, is the aim. I have a feeling it’s going to be a solo venture with first song releases. I just seem to get on and do the best I can presently. Fingers crossed it’ll turn out okay.

When I said about hearing the noise of songs in my head that weren’t happening on recording? Its clarity is based on appropriate technology. I always buy really cheap stuff and struggle. So, maybe my brother was right when he spoke about buying stuff in our teens. He always said ‘Buy once, cry once’. He did exactly that while I went for cheaper options. Cheers Sheila.

      1. Ah, I hope the new mixer helps you out, Gray.
Yes, I agree with your brother. My mom and her parents always believed buying Quality. The best one can afford anyway.
I had two children though (my parents only had me), and I was a single mom for many years too, so I couldn’t save or but Quality stuff. Now, I have bought a few quality items but know I will at least get my use out of these and can leave them to my two grown children and granddaughters.
Of course even quality technology can crap out. Back in my parents and grandparents’ days, it was buy (or build) quality housing and coats/clothing.

      2. The mixer looks complicated, but so did GarageBand when I started. Bit by bit it gets easier. So fingers crossed. I remember your blogs regarding your upbringing in youth. And of course, passing on this technology to the children. I hadn’t thought of that. I know Apple Mac M1 and M2 models from years on years ago are still appreciated and used.

Pushed the ‘like’ button on a couple of your YouTube videos this morning. Frankie yowling to get outside interrupted listening further. My garden has no internet signal. So sat reading a book. Sunny here so was nice.

      3. Oh, yes, about learning the new mixer bit by bit (like learning GB and any other new technologies). I sooo hear that, Gray.

I was about to begin playing with my new calligraphy pen (been meaning to get to it all winter), but alas, now I have a cold and am using it as my excuse not to do much.
I have been collecting a few ideas, and now have new paper to write on. So, I’m moving closer to experimenting with it.
Thank you for listening and liking a few of the YouTube music videos, Gray. Totally understand about Frankie fellow and the peaceful garden. Sweet!

      4. Rest is more important than pursuit at times Sheila. I was talking with John the drummer on Messenger today about exactly the same thing. Taking your foot off the accelerator and chilling out. The penmanship experience is sitting there patiently. It will not go out of date. 😊 Paper to use becomes a fascination as much as the pen and ink. Paper of certain quality, surface and weight makes writing a whole different ball game. You get to know your faves. Cheers.

    1. I changed the audio now cookie to a quieter song. Don’t want to hurt ears. So sorry you were in its path. Strangely, some recordings do that. And yet virtually all are recorded at the same level. Weird science does exist. All the best.
