Over a few weeks now I’ve been picking up the guitar, mostly one of the Eko dreadnoughts (my very first decent acoustic guitar bought back in the very early 1970s) and playing a game of strum, hope and capture.
I found this lovely piece of art above in the free photograph library that WordPress kindly offers us. I thought of that little phrase ‘Ethereal Songs to be Given Freedom from Seemingly Nowhere’ when looking at the imagery.
Below are recent ideas for songs that are in their true infancy. Stuttering vocals, a basic strum on guitar and sleepy tunes at times trying to find their way out of my deep neural synapses.
They are all pretty much low volume due to being sung into the iPad microphone. Well, that’s wrong. The first three are basic ideas on the Mac M2 GarageBand malarkey. But the rest are iPad born.
When I write songs, they just appear and say ‘Hello’. Where they come from? I don’t really know. But after this infancy below, they do develop. A bit like the imagery above. They know a little festive party is coming along, in a place called ‘The Den’. And so they dress themselves up. Far more tidier from the rags and ruins you will hear below, and feeling quite dapper, they arrive in ‘The Den’ ready to party down. They go on with far more confidence than previously, strut into the party room and joyfully join a much brighter space when other instruments begin joining the fray. I tend to just play little single keyboard melodies and add overlay guitar. But, as I am no 6 string guitarist, I tend to know what sounds should be on the songs, but have no skills to achieve them. No idea on sound production either. 69 year old ears have been battered and bruised and frequency loss is a pain. But hey ho! It’s still fun to try.
So when the ones below do arrive at the party, all sparkly smart and having sprayed a bit of faerie dust eau de cologne over themselves, they get to boogie with the rest of the crew. Groovin’ with Mr. Summers on Cloud 9’ for example.
So, here I am, showing you all once again ‘The Warts and All’ of recent ideas for some new songs. You may hear your own musical imaginings to add to the background of the ‘test out tunes’ below. Add some strange and wonderful additions of your own ‘mind melodies’ to some of the whimsy I am warbling. So please feel free to Hum a little harmony to bring synergy to a tune or two. It will hopefully arrive from seemingly nowhere.
Cheers…….and all the best.
