Good Old (New) Desk.

Good New Desk….

My good old (new) desk.

Myself and my wife were in a shop in Newtown, Wales. It had many second hand items. In amongst a plethora of choices was an old battered school desk. It was nice and distressed. But, No, not ‘The’ desk I yearn for. So I wasn’t truly tempted to buy it. I have my makeshift ‘Good Old Desk’ as Harry Nilsson sang. It’s not old at all. I take that ‘old’ title presently. So my desk is a cheap fold up/fold away. It has become a beautiful comfort zone of light and sometimes chaotic pleasure. A place to look around and capture a strange source for motivation. That old Newtown distressed desk? It made me smile. Because eventually I will find one that cannot be ignored. It will be cosmically ordered down the timeline where ‘dreamed for’ inclusions sleep. But sssshhhh! Don’t tell my current desk buddy. He’ll collapse in the middle of a poem being written out of grumpy-ness. Just for the fun of throwing his toys out the pram.

Currently, it isn’t really reading material or fountain pens that are grabbing the Summers’ brain. But guitars. Especially relearning Bass guitar a for a couple of future projects. Playing a few live gigs again and putting together an album. A bunch of old and new songs to be considered and recorded. All planned for next year. But, you need to write new songs and therefore write down the lyrics still. So desk is still an essential. I can fold it away anytime at all to make space. So a battered old desk ownership is going to have to wait awhile.

Lyrics…..new songs…

Below is ambience. It allows a comforting escape.

PLEASE TAP THE PHOTOS BELOW TO ENLARGE. CHEERS.

Three new-ish songs. Acoustically written.

YEAR ONE.

We smash the clock faces

And try to turn them all back.

Wipe out all traces.

But tick-tock.

The clocks keep ticking.

We can’t seem to walk away

We’ve just become

Targets on the wall.

And we’ve given headway

For God to

Simply laugh at us all.

Year one…..when will I see you again.

Year one…..this can’t be the bitter end.

Year one…..you called yourself ‘my friend’.

Year one…..when will I ever get to see you again?

TOGETHER.

There she goes.

Looking for all the world like an angel.

Her friends tell me she’s gone for good

It’s understood

But I don’t believe them

Because she promised me we’d be together

Old and grey

Walking hand in hand

By the sea.

Until we….

Touched the sky…….together.

And we’d fly…….together.

‘Til the end of time……..together.

And still catch……one more day.

OUTSIDE, LOOKING IN.

On the outside, looking in, from my world.

I feel I could never fit in, to your world.

The bitterest pill I’ve ever had to take

Has been you.

It still doesn’t feel like a bad mistake

Because I still love you.

There’s never been an easy way of saying

That I don’t love you

Because there’s never been a time at all

I’ve ever wanted to.

A LITTLE EXTRA BLOG BIT ADDED ON. AN OLD PHOTOGRAPH AND ADDED THOUGHTS FOR WHAT IT MEANS TO TAKE IT.

Nant y Moch. Leading to the Dams.

PROSE FOR BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPH OF NANT Y MOCH.

Your outside is not seen by anyone else outside because

You’re outside in a place that breathes isolating serenity.

Your inside feels awed by the possibility of a perfect catch when

You’re inside your photographer’s brain.

It’s bliss.

Fully thinking.

Should I choose a plethora of silvery grain

To break up perfection on a whim?

Again.? A gain. Or disaster?

Snow White, translucent silvery grain

Like carved alabaster.

Dream thought to paper touch

To future grimoire inclusion.

A chance taken? Obviously.

Hands rubbed in glee.

Not sinisterly.

But in sincerity.

Latent imagery sits waiting patiently.

Presently? Sitting. Hoping.

Inside its own sleeping, producing an ethereal dream.

Envisaging the outcomes by not looking at all.

It already knows.

Let the inner soul provide the magic spell………

Let Destiny

Decide.

  1. Morning Gray, from a very wet Glasgow. I dont think its a day for photographs unless they’re from indoors. I loved your meanderings. It seems your desk is serving you well, but I know what youmean about finding that perfect one. I’m looking for a new desk too, but meantime taking my mother-in-law’s computer desk so I’m not working at the kitchen table.

    I loved your poem(s). I particularly liked

    “Until we….

    Touched the sky…….together”

    Beautiful. 😍

    1. Morning too Brenda. Nice to hear from you. Hope you are well. Wet here too. We’ve had days to weeks of rain. Getting really frustrating now. Weather man says ‘glorious this weekend…..apart from Scotland’. Fingers crossed he got it wrong for you. A desk for writing is an amazing aesthetic. You know all about that. Smell of polished furniture wax, paper, hot black coffee, ginger biscuits and ink. Like Nirvana is enveloping the senses. 😊 I’m mixing song lyrics, poems and prose over the last months. Albeit naively….it is fun. Doesn’t matter where you yourself write Brenda. You always produce little gems. But it would be nice to have a lovely desk that you are at one with. All the best and fingers crossed for sunshine.

      1. Regrettably no sunshine here today … I’ll just have to play sunshine music. I’m good, just been busy getting finished up for the October break. Now I can focus on my passions … sitting with a cup of tea and my blog planning books. I’ve missed having the time to write, so hoping to make up for that over the next week. I’ve loads to write up. And another couple of trips to aedinburgh planned to visit a couple of exhibitions

      2. Life sounds suddenly so much sweeter for you. October is usually a strange month, but if a break is involved, time to relax, do the writing with gusto and get out and be a tourist in your own locality? It’s suddenly not so strange at all. Look forward to reading your words. Cheers Brenda.

      3. Yes, I hope the weather improves. There’s an exhibition in Glasgow next week too, plus I’ve still to write about the Mary Quant one I visited. But first coffee ☕️

    1. The Moon Magic book was written about on Danny’s (Chronicles of a Fountain Pen) post a few days ago. I liked the look of it so went for it on Amazon. Great little book. Script is nice putting down on the handmade paper. Was about 04.30 in middle of night so a bit scrawled out. No true effort as it’s based on my normal shapes. But fun doing. The words to songs are in infancy, but they’ll develop over the months ahead. Thank you Sheila.

      1. Thank you for the tip on the book, I just put an Amazon order in and wondered if I needed to look for anything else. Haha! I will look after dinner. Chronicles of a Fountain Pen sounds great too! You always connect me with stuff up my alley. I hear ya about middle of the night scrawl. Posting next with a rough cut of our latest song.

      2. Exciting stuff for you. I am really pleased to have found music again in the way it is happening presently. You have both followed your own destiny and it is so nice to see you enjoy the processes of recording. Danny enjoys writing about his passion for fountain pens. Nice guy too. Always worth a read. Bloggers are a fascinating source to give motivation in areas that truly interest them and then their enthusiasm extends on to us. And in a World so vast? The then in the blink of an eye, information and conversation is exchanged. Brilliant. The Moon book is a lovely compact format that can be tapped in to extend thoughts of your own. It has little pieces of information that jump start your own enquiries. I like that type of influence.

      3. Bloggers inspire in the same way as the Moon Magic book. They point in a direction and you either go ‘Wow’ and walk into your own slant of the subject. Or you nod in admiration then shrug your shoulders and say ‘Very, very interesting, but not so enamouring for my own jump start happening’. Or words to that effect. You’ll enjoy the precision and neat format of the Moon book hopefully. It’s sweet. All the best Sheila and it’ll be grand hearing that voice of yours smashing joy into others’ senses. 😊🙏🏽

      4. Hubby is converting the audio file for me to post. UGH But yes, thank you, Gray. We never share our rough demos but I will this once.
Totally agree with you on how our reactions (based on our own filters, lens, knowledge, experience, biases etc.) determine what we are spurred to write from a prompt.

      5. I converted mine to send to the guys at Messenger. I use MOTIV audio app by Shure microphones. I had to use the new iPad microphone as it has a USB-C connection and not the lightening one that fits my ‘Mike’. There are options within the app to get the file small enough to send. My singing was a lot of chat and explaining. So not appropriate. But I can now feel comfortable in popping on a song now and again here on WordPress. I have to watch % space it takes up though. If too much, I will link to outside platforms like YouTube. But in it’s infancy presently. Looking forward to your new song.

      6. Ah, gotcha. I don’t get into the audio stuff much anymore—not since I worked at RadioShack in 1986-87! Ha! Hubby does all that and I stick with computers/Macs.
I sooo hear you about WordPress % filling up. I could put it in my YouTube channel—great tip, Gray! Thank you

      7. It’s a conundrum really this % allowance. Also a few frustrating blips with Jetpack are becoming irksome too. I feel a mass clear out of old blogs and accompanying photographs happening over the coming months. Choose a top 50 I like and copy and print the rest to keep as memories.

      8. Very nice! I feel it has a 1960s vibe. Love the smokey voice. Great song writing too. Clever to use those extensive Bond themes in the lyrics. Must have been difficult to integrate them all. Very unique in the way it is done. 👍 Are the intentions to take it to mix in a recording studio?

      9. Oh, cool! I was going to post a link to make it easier for you to find it but got interrupted. So glad you found it!
Very cool observation about the vibe of the song and I sooo appreciate that about my voice too. I hadn’t even warmed up.
I think my hubby is a master at crafting lyrics. Thank you for that too! He works at it for sure. He did one for Clint Eastwood and Stephen King too.
Yes, he has sent that rough demo to the professional studio in Nashville TN to be “radio-ready.”

      10. Do love a vibe. It will be interesting to hear the final mix. The Specials, a band we supported, on tour in the 1980s on the promotion of their 2nd album, had a song on that album called ‘Sock it to ‘em JB’. Worth a YouTube visit re: James Bond. Thank you for this feedback Sheila. Great to hear the plans. 🙏🏽

  2. wow to the handwriting 😁

    The songs are wonderful, Gray.

    “We smash the clock faces
And try to turn them all back.
    Wipe out all traces.
    But tick-tock.
    The clocks keep ticking”

Its a faithful tick… sadly or not for some.

    very much enjoyed 🙏

    1. Thank you. The handwriting is born from an early age. I remember in primary school being asked to focus because a TyPhoo tea competition was being entered in the school. They thought I would do okay. I tried too hard to be spot on and I didn’t win. So, after that it was a case of just go with whatever felt comfortable and enjoy writing for its own sake. I suppose I had no more expectations. So I just simply write like this all the time. It has changed over and over as shapes of letters get played with. The ‘clock’ song is one I have written a new tune to recently. Sang it to the guitarist and drummer by sending by iPad recording to Spain and a few hundred miles down the road here in the UK. It’ll work well I believe. Technology hey! Glad you like the words. Cheers Destiny.

      1. I did……..on another alternative blog draft. And decided No. Because it had me chatting ‘one way’ to the guys. Explaining stuff. I use the MOTIV app which is a Shure microphone product. I was playing acoustic and singing the ‘Year One’ first verse/chorus. Included with another song called ‘She Said’ too. A longer format of verbal explanatory inclusions and not simple short songs. Promise I will begin to upload future stuff though. I used to upload songs on Flickr from time to time. 🙏🏽 Destiny.

      2. Oh! My daughter writes in a unique and wonderful way. Her handwriting is amazing. As is her photography skills. Both art forms are so much better than mine. I’m not just saying that because she is my daughter either.
