Frankie……..

I am no ‘I need a kitten, cat, puppy, dog, goldfish, hamster, guinea pig, rabbit, etc.’ fan. When the children were growing up? Yes. Those pets all found their way into Summersville here in Wales. It was usually after they arrived that it was myself that had the task of looking after the fundamental needs of such ‘Oh! We must have them’s’. Who did all the fundamentals after the promises of others being responsible? Yup……me.

So, on a visit to where my daughter, now 38 years old, is now living, but having to move into a larger rented property where pets are not allowed situation. There becomes a problem. Frankie was one of the kittens (of Peachy the Mother’s 4 kitten outpouring) that they wanted to keep. But cannot.

The current landlord of the house they live in now, is selling the property. And hence the need to find a new property…….quickly. Long story short….we have found a lovely ongoing larger house to suit two adults and four children. A perfect place. But not so perfect because it comes with a ‘No pets allowed’ status.

We visit my daughter, 130 miles away, to take lots of cardboard boxes for packing purposes. Peachy, the pure Bengal mother cat, has been given to a teacher friend of my daughter’s. Frankie is now the last kitten. Sadness is paramount! Who will have him they say!

The answer is written in the stars. Frankie jumps up onto the sofa, cuddles next to yours truly and starts to rasp lick my hand. ‘Hey!’ They all shout. ‘He doesn’t do that. He scratches and bites us usually. Why is he licking your hand’. I don’t believe them because maybe a dastardly plan is being carried out. They are making up stories to tug at my heartstrings. My grandson shows the results of said scratches. Okay…I rationalise….Frankie does love to see if his claws and teeth make a statement then.

Frankie is half Bengal. Father? Who knows. A Tom with Tom Bombadil’s ‘Hey dol, Merry dol…..ring a dong dillo’ spirit hopefully. What happened for Frankie to become future legend? Well, Peachy got outdoors one night and came back smiling. As said, Peachy is full on Bengal. Father unknown. Four kittens produced. Bengal is a breed worth Googling. I have. My mind is now scrambled. Why? Because Frankie the complicated Fella is coming to Summersville. Even after reading Bengal the breed. And the characteristics of such a cat are full on, and then some, complicated.

So. With the oddity in that I irrationally say ‘Maybe he can come to Wales’ as an instant reply. It is now reality. He will be picked up in a couple of weeks. Why say such crazy utterances Gray? Because I tapped into the emotional ‘please the family’ past. Those past moments of ‘Oh! We must keep him’ scenarios. So…..Frankie is now part of the family. With Gray Summers as the 99% responsible part of the family. Me 99% committed to the full on fundamentals.

When my daughter and grandchildren visit here in the future, they can see Frankie’s progress. So that’s nice. Me? Maybe a nervous tic or twitch will have developed over the ongoing time. But……then again….he did cuddle up to me. So it will all be okay in the end. I have a feeling he knows me as his soul mate. So a look from me to sort out the Frankie as a good vibe cat will be written in OM……..
