Vintage rocks!
Tippy tappy old skool typewriter. Old remembered schooldays A to Zee rubber stamps, next to wet ink pads full of muted earthy colours to be delivered, albeit awry, onto handmade Indian papers. Whilst writing with beautiful choices of early to mid 1900’s dip nibs in wonderful varieties and choices. They get placed lovingly into tactile wooden holders. Which produce the energy and therapy of ‘Dickensian’. Nibs and wooden shafts dipped into inkwells with subsequent considered inks of varying hues. Trying out ancient script shapes isn’t a sought discipline. Just an interesting attempt at creating calligraphy shapes that hold fascination to the eyes of beholders. There is always an excitement of what today and tomorrow can still bring from the applications of vintage yesteryear. But there is also a fascination in applying vintage to new ideas for script too.
And so the story goes
To where?
No one knows.
Born from?
Well! Out of promises.
Not worn out wishes.
Love vintage. You have to work at keeping it valid….but, when it produces it’s intentions, with room to develop it’s reasons for existing still, and with application can still improve your skills once again……it is worth it’s weight in gold.…….

Yes vintage rocks! Beautiful. Or perhaps I should say, handsome writing. So many pen tips, so little time. Love all this, Gray.

Ah Sheila. But that is the beauty of single choice ‘Dickensian’ nibs. You simply remove the choice by swirling the nib clean in a glass of water, quickly dry on tissue, pull the nib off the wooden pen holder and choose another. Takes seconds to change and try dozens of other choice nibs. Also. Easy to have different ink colour and type choices. A nice handmade paper, music gently playing in the background and what follows is an amazing therapeutic session. Letting freedom of expression, doodling imagery and nonsense thoughts pour themselves onto paper is an activity of pure joy. Cheers for the reply Sheila.

I suppose it is a case of hunkering down in Winter months. The imagery and experiences are very rustic in their qualities. Wonderful deep nature based ink colours, the freedom of flowing lines on paper, the not bothering what happens mistake wise, just put the pen to the paper and go wherever. Also, it helps to just escape the weather outside. Ambience of gentleness in the surroundings is very important. Like meditation. Yes….this writing and drawing activity with vintage choice and the simplicity’s involved is rather meditative in reality. Thank you Sheila.

Old Skool is often found on old Volkswagen buses. Hippy vibes! Old Skool is a great term. But Vintage is a strange term to pin down too. I still play on my Eko Dreadnought acoustic guitar from the early 1970s. But I don’t consider it vintage, but part of my life story. This is because I bought it from new. Yet the 1972 VeeDub Bus (my camper van) I bought 15 years ago? So Vintage. Thank you cookie for the reply.

Thank you Destiny. My handwriting is a nice opportunity to express and let it go where it wants. There is fun in lack of regimented application. All the best. 🙏🏽 too.

I can almost smell the ink on the paper, and feel the texture of the paper on my fingertips!

Thank you for the comment. It becomes a pleasant pastime sitting and writing down anything that simply springs to mind. Also, writing with intentions too. But not so pleasant as the former simple meanderings. Soon to be amongst those aromas? Spiced clove and orange scented candles, Christmas hot mince pies and rich dark coffee with Demerara sugar. All the best and good fortune to you.
