Fifteen minute experiment.

January the First. Couple of days before, was thinking and regarding lack of using the recording Apple stuff. So…..:

Switched on the Apple Mac and opened GarageBand. Microphone for one voice recording and keyboard set up to record simple tunes in simplicity.

Opened up a percussion drum and extras track and elongated it to suit a bit of musical overlay.

Overlay? Chose 3 bass notes. Next?

Call and response maybe. So chose a different up to the down note sequence. One little melody down. One little melody up.

Then an elongated synthesised pulse rhythm. One note expansion.

The choice of a simply sung phrase. ‘Hey I know’. It’ll do as opposed to a Native American similar chant or Medicine Buddha mantra familiar choice. Avoid the spiritual for the sensible. May delete ‘Hey I know’ to expand later. Probably, and in realty? No. Not. Silly idea. This is no song. It is simply seeing if the recording groove still exists four to six weeks out of the experience of burgeoning reality.

Result? Hey, I know. There is a comfort in realising recognised patterns again.

You go into a recording system you were getting slowly familiar with again and spent 15 to 20 minutes in ad hoc capturing to relearn. Simply? It is something that I can hang my current hat on. I wanted to go from full to less sound wise. So fuller at start to less beyond.

If you have patience, close your eyes, and when the last ‘real’ vocal ends…….wait a while, chill……and a little double phrase keyboard notation exit. Then say…..’Aaaaah! Noice’.

Hey……..I know. Not a song. Simply a quick vibe.

    1. 😆. Shep…..me neither. Drinking too much JD and Bushmills combo. I thought it would be a great idea, after a fair few, to see if I still got a clue to how this recording stuff works. After midnight too. No guitars, just silent percussion and keyboard stuff through headphones. A ‘try to be quiet and sing quietly into the mic’ bit of nonsense? Angie says next morning, were you p****d’? ‘Yup’ I reply. What amazes me is that I actually sound normal! Honest to truth. Woke up next morning thinking ‘What the ……..’. Listened back and thought, ‘Should have had one more Bushmills’. Cheers Shep. Wishing you a grand New Year…..

      1. Angie was on the money. It’s the holiday season as someone sang. Andy Williams? So a few more Bushmills tonight too. Angie’s sister and husband visiting for a few days. So a bit of ‘dry January can wait’ scenario. Then? Back to focusing. Took me a fair few type and deletes with this Shep. 😊 Hopefully it’ll make sense until morning. I’m working my reply on prediction text. It’s got more sense than me at the moment. 😆 🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃and one for good luck. 🥃 Cheers Shep. 🙏🏽 you’re a 💫

    1. Started early. Seriously though, a dry year repeat starts soon. Did it the whole of 2021, and really minimal intake in 23, but a bit more in 24. So dry again this one ahead. 🫖☕️🧃🥤Cheers Shep.

  1. Ha! I hear you, Gray. Man, I give you all the credit for figuring this GB out! I opened GB on my phone and picked a couple of things and recorded the 15 seconds by mistake! I had no idea what I was doing or how to stop it! It was a HOOT!
Richard muted the TV because he had thought it was music on the show he was watching! I had to profusely apologize and explain what it was. He spouted, “that damn GB!” In turn, that made me roar with laughter!
I may try again tomorrow and save it. I don’t know.
Oh! I thought of you when we watched Johnny Depp in a brilliant movie tonight! It was called, City of Lies. WOW! He was great in that!
    Cheers, Gray.

    1. When you get familiar with the system, you follow your own process. Mine is a drum or percussion choice. A short sample shows. Then I elongate by hitting the add button. Go up to 100. If too long or short can add or delete in sections. I used to drag the whole pattern. But you can’t delete what you don’t need. Then I get the drums to follow something I play and record. Bass or electric/acoustic guitar. Then the drum dynamics change as it picks up on nuance changes with the guitar. After that, I just add and add. This a quick keyboard in three little ‘tunes’. Stop when you want and let the percussion drums carry the weight. Hence fuller to empty sound. Vocals were literally soft and low volume singing. Close as close to the mic. A little self made jam session off the hoof. All made up on the spot. Bish, bash, bosh. A few too many JD’s and whisky’s as it was still holiday mood. Going dry this year like I did a few years ago.

Once you get the hang of GB Sheila, you will be doing a similar ‘recording as second nature’. Then the fun starts. Richard can then have an improved film soundtrack to tap ears into.

City of Lies is a great film. See if you can watch The Professor. Brilliant. Cheers back Sheila. And good fortune for the coming year.

      1. Yes, I will keep these GB instructions, Gray. Awesome! Thank you!
We also are going dry this year. Or for as long as we can… we just made the change to vegetarian too. We have been raw vegan before but it’s been many years. We know it can improve one’s bio markers. Those dietary changes and my sauna, and we will feel a lot lighter by Spring! That’s our plan.
I will look for The Professor.

      2. All will fall into place as you have worked successfully with techno stuff before. The dry year of end of 2021 decision to start 2022 worked well. Felt really different and brighter to be honest. Small amounts the following year on special occasions in 23. But this year was more due to the music and not being as active. This year will be a return to the dry. But will start in a couple of weeks. Vegetarian is better for myself than vegan. 50 years now as vegetarian. You are much envied by myself with your sauna possession Sheila. Such a great idea. But, I won’t go down that road. Maybe much later down the line. All the best.

      3. I understand, Gray. Vegetarians feel better generally. And the sauna was a must have now for me. Better that than knee stiffness, inflammation, etc. But like I said in my posts, I have researched/desired it for 4 years. Now, it is helping me acclimate to the cold climate too.
Either that or I would be imbibing more! Ha!

      4. Yes. I remember your ambitions for one. It seems you can simply switch off too. Get completely into the zone. Never looked into the health benefits. Our visitor is taking one a day (daily) shots of ginger, turmeric, lemon juice, black pepper, orange juice and honey. The black pepper helps the turmeric to work as an adjunctive synergy. Water added helps make it less thick. Her knee inflammatory problems are now gone. She can climb stairs now and take more elongated walks. I have been fine as a vegetarian. But recently, older age is impacting. Same food choices, but not giving me the same healing results. Ah well.

      5. I have read that about turmeric and black pepper, but I don’t tolerate black pepper much. So prefer my turmeric in food with a bit of cayenne. I don’t know if it will eventually help or not.
The sauna boosts something called, heat shock proteins (so I am much more resilient to the cold temperatures), and rebuilds/ strengthens mitochondria.

      6. I read that black pepper is a glorious addition to the body in many ways. Piperine, I think, is the active part. I think turmeric with black pepper helps assist the turmeric into metabolised status. Don’t quote me though. I studied Mitochondria activities in the body as a student. Again, they are a magnificent inclusion in cell structure as to what they do performance wise. My lecturer at the time spoke very highly of their role and often spoke of the mystery and positivities regarding their presence. So….Sounds like the sauna is a great addition for your well being if it enhances their profile.
