Storyboard. The Den songs.

Today I had a small lightbulb moment concerning what to do concerning recording a video as a storyboard in the VeeDub Bus.

I believe that the songs that are already finished and have been recorded on the Apple Mac M2 in the little home studio, known as The Den, would be ideal played in acoustic fashion out in the open air. Then a comparison study would be a good theme. Especially to chat about how the songs can progress. An acoustic version of these songs below, stripped and laid bare, would give ideas to how my songs develop. Sometimes it may be said that the simplicity of an acoustic version may be far better. Who knows.

The storyboard format would have specific sections every time. And two of those sections are now sorted. #1. Acoustic song and #2. The Den song. Trouble is! An idea of what to put visually over The Den songs below is the hardest thought process at the moment. Playing an acoustic version of them is simply myself alone, or myself alongside another musician with an instrument or a singer. Alongside? Simply chatting about the ways of getting songs recorded.

These songs below are the core for the first videos though. Use what has already been done. And what is quite nice about the versions below, is that with my new fast fibre broadband, I can send out the highest quality option into the universe. Before, the songs have been uploaded here on WP on basic levels.

For the possible new visitors to this blog, here is the background info regarding the songs below. All songs written by myself, Gray Summers. All the instruments, apart from the drums which are from the GarageBand library, are played by myself. So guitars, keyboards, vocals and a bit of percussion. I don’t like AI one little bit. So will never use it. So the songs will have mistakes. But that’s okay. I’m only human after all.

If you have the opportunity to do so, using headphones is a far better listening experience. Thank you.

Cheers and all the best to you all.

Intro song to the YouTube Vlogcasts.
Rhythm of Lies. Wind of Sorrows.
Eddie Loves to Dance.
18 years was 50 years ago.
Old Man…I guess that’s me.
Clean Start to Nothing Yet.
This Instrumental is an intended introduction to the Cloud 9 Vlogcast on YouTube when there are other musicians involved in the ongoing video. The intention is to write an upbeat lyric of simple introductory content intent and find a melody to attach. A kind of ‘Hello, Hello. Here we Go’ type of involvement which is suitable for The VeeDub/Cloud 9’/Musical Vibe storyboard scenarios.
And…..remember to not to get too cheesy!
Faded Walls. Time to burn them down. If the Outside looks Right in at You, then, don’t turn around.
November, the Stereo and You…..My Friend.
Year One.
Stop this Heartache.
Stars above the Dunes.
Currently an instrumental. Considering rewriting the intended melody/lyrics. Removed the vocal/lyric track as to sing over just this presentation above.
He Said, She Said.
Hey Yano……. A little vocal ditty attached too.
Groovin’ with Mr. Summers on Cloud 9.

AND NOW THERE BECOMES A TIME OF ENQUIRY. I NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE MUSIC PLATFORM ‘BANDCAMP’. TO UPLOAD SOME OF TGESE SONGS ABOVE. AS WITH ALL NEW VENTURES AND THE ENQUIRY NEED, I HAVE A FAIR AMOUNT OF TREPIDATION BEFORE JUMPING IN TO THE EXPERIENCE. NEED TO BITE THE BULLET AND JUST WEATHER THE POSSIBLE STORM.

AND…….SOME FINAL INSTRUMENTAL INCLUSIONS FOR REFLECTING WHEN WALKING THROUGH THE LOCAL SCENERY OR SIMPLY FILMING LOCAL SPOTS.

Be Humble …. i-know ……..that I know nothing. Socrates.
TADA.

    1. Cheers Danny. Great minds think alike. About a month ago I started uploading my songs to YouTube. I had to choose either typing out the lyrics onto a blank coloured iMovie screen choice with typed lyrics or a story, using my own photographs to type over little one liner statements or looked at my old black and white images to see if they were appropriate for a story board to support the lyrics. They weren’t. But I did use them for one video with each having a very loose connection to the lyrics.

So, you have thought of the very same idea. Which means I was on the right track if you are thinking along the same lines. As said, ‘great minds think alike’. I did do a ‘The Den’ images one on one of the songs. If you have any future ideas for any quirky or strange inclusions, it would be great if you suggest some. That would be appreciated.

The videos on YouTube are all a bit naive presently. I want a more ‘arty’ vibe. I was looking at some Paul McCartney and the new Ian Hunter album videos on YouTube a few months back. They were exactly the idea I was looking for. But their videos have class. Mine are miles apart and need to be really worked on.

When you say about the handwriting and notes, I have written the plans on the 5 recent blogs. Writing was considered for putting within the video format for an interlude presentation. An ASMR moment to relax, chill and change the video dynamic. A camera above the paper being written upon as a chill out part to the complete video. But not actually in the song video. Now you mention it, that is a great idea. Timing my writing to the lyrics sung. It would be one of those ‘speed up’ videos. That’s a challenge! Could do some of your doodle type ideas when just instruments are playing. Draw an instrument like a piano, trumpet, drum kit or such like. Probably a dip nib pen would be the best choice. Vintage pen with a vintage scratched film black and white imagery. May even use a typewriter too.

Cheers Danny. You have truly got me thinking now. All the best.

      1. Hi Gray. After my brief comment I considered using song topic specific pictures (your stock or freely available) would make for an interesting video. As much as I hate to say it but AI could help create sketches as the song plays. Much like yourself I am not a fan of AI.

      2. I just worry about the AI app access to my iPad music files as I have heard they can use peoples’ music for building influences in their own songs. Haven’t read a lot about it but lots of musicians are getting angry and there is talk of suing. But if I can create some art imagery and build a frame by frame video, then that should be fun. I have already seen a few tricks and learnt a few ideas off YouTube up-loaders about how to use iMovie. It has some nice features.

      3. I haven’t used AI beyond allowing it to create an image. I seemed to recall there is a setting in WP asking if AI can use your posts to better learn. I opted out of that option.

AI, CGI images, photo editing software, the definition of creativity has changed dramatically. I sound like a ranting old guy.

      4. You’re not ranting Danny. I was speaking to my son in law about films. He is a huge cinema fan. He was saying that what was once glorified when CGI was in its infancy is now considered the norm. He said that we do not look at it any more with wonder. Apart from certain films that are little groundbreakers. Avatar is a great example. That’s why I love the back to basics films that simply tell an amazing story with human conversational and interactive emotional exchanges. Acting with great performances. I never saw the AI option here on WP. I would have refused too. Cheers Danny.

    1. Thank you Brenda. What has been the biggest learning experience is sound quality. Either from my own technophobe naivety when playing and recording badly or from social media platforms changing the sound by compressing songs to suit the ease of uploading by keeping quality to a minimum. My blog today is a comparison study. One of my songs on YouTube and the same song uploaded to here on WP. WP wins hands’ down.

      1. I would have expected more from YouTube. That’s really disappointing

I was also thinking, I know you’re not a fan on AI, but it could be useful for you as a sounding board when exploring your options for how to display material etc … not to actually create anything. I find it can be useful sometimes just to get all my jumbled ideas down and use it to help order the chaos … but also sometimes to explore and understand why something doesn’t work/doesn’t feel right

      2. Thanks for the suggestion. I did read though that having an app means they can access your system and files. Therefore they can use your songs. There are a few court cases where musicians are suing AI companies due to the close resemblances to their own tunes. So I am avoiding at all cost.

Even Messenger on Facebook has some sort of AI presence now. Being a part of conversational content is crazy. But then, aren’t we being tracked in all we do through our phones, etc.. I get spooked when I am thinking about something and an advert appears. Obviously not accessing my thinking, but certainly links to what is currently on your mind and speaking of it to friends and family!

That’s why I love Vintage Brenda. And lots of musicians are going back to old analogue systems.

    1. It’s a nightmare to be honest. I tend to just bury my head in the sand. Back in the day, songwriters used to post a cassette recording of their music back to themselves and on receiving did not open the envelope. That way, the stamp print on top of the official stamp proved when they wrote the song. If someone copied their song, the evidence who wrote it first was sealed.

Now, we are living in a time where it doesn’t seem to matter. Musicians have never been so upset. Even royalties have taken a hammering. A million listens online and a penny in royalty payment. Joking…but that’s how it’s going. Radio stations still pay artists for when they use their songs. So a hit record or an iconic much played life long record is a treasure.

      1. The irony is that if you ask Google Chrome the question as to which musicians are suing specific AI companies, the answer comes up as an AI overview. I believe record companies are getting involved too. Worth a Quick Look Brenda. Royalty payments are probably okay for the famous musicians. But! I don’t know why famous artists on tour charge an absolute fortune for tickets. Hundreds of pounds for a single ticket. So maybe they don’t realise massive Royalty pay outs anymore on album sales.
