Back in the XCerts days I wrote this little ditty below. I sang it quickly onto my iPad, here below, a fair few months back. Maybe a year plus! My memory is pretty awful nowadays. No dementia! Just overload trying to untangle and make sense of spidery, dust ridden. webs of overloads.
This afternoon it was nice to try out a little experimentation on the Mac M2 new home recording system and using a swirling guitar on the Hohner Les Paul over a simple drum track vibe and mucking about with it in a completely different attitude.
It isn’t here on the blog yet. Simply put …. I haven’t recorded it. It became a personal moment with no ‘push the red recording button’ action.
But! Tomorrow it will be good to go back into The Den and try out that personal experience and capture the new sound to the song again.
On the Mac technology, it sounded very different to how it was in its 1970s sound. And very different from this basic iPad catch here, as you listen, too. The swirling echo vibe of electric guitar on the Mac had a therapeutic vibe somehow. It became easy to emotionally sing the lyrics with a different insight too. Why? I believed in the lyrics back then. And they still resonate now. Why?
Well. Now I’ve stated all this? A huge let down awaits? And yet ….. Nope! In reality, it actually doesn’t matter. Nothing matters in art captures unless there is a simple connection to at least one human being. And that human being is actually the artist themself.
Audience the song? I never need an audience in reality. The Den, as no Audience, is supreme comfort. A cocoon of safety. It only becomes an Audience if shared.
Life has been a long issue of learning over 70 years. As an introvert in nature, it is now easy to recognise that existence can be tailored to simplicity. Keep it private. Or share the vibe.
A current expression that I thought of, as writing here just now, is regarding the University of ‘Us’ as individuals. It is one of ‘ We are who we are’ and yet, can sometimes see that others recognise too that they may have similar nature. I imagine that uniqueness isn’t personal. It is a shared value unique, in different ways, in us all.
And yet, with social Networking, it seems to be that people are seeking confirmation of self being relevant. Unique is being devalued. Don’t we all feel we are sometimes on a Worldwide stage in this age of internet uniformity and being judged is rocking our boats? I seriously believe this to be a bad vibe.
I mention therapy in music often. We can listen to music decades upon decades. And as Led Zeppelin sang, ‘The Song Remains the Same’. And the word ‘Therapeutic’? Both in past revisit values as to ‘What once was’ is now ‘Has been’ doesn’t mean a thing with regard to our lifetime listens with music. Actions oft wanting to drop from memory? Well ….. yes. But music is consistently timeless. And yet, like most artistic presentations, they are always open to new ideas and values. Emotions though, to sound, mono or stereo, stay ingrained.
And yet, sometimes, it is always valuable to drop old memories. Actually, if we bite the bullet, it isn’t a crime to change perspectives and realise that you are allowed to dip into your past, drop the angst ridden memories and recognise the good things that were learnt and bring them into a new perspective.
As a retired nurse, I can now easily drop the shuddering feelings of past memories and experiences, and still use past skills to seek answers when people have current illness. And ask for information. Basically, once you have insights to situations, you don’t have to ignore the professional healthcare theme of once known insecurity driven and ridden thoughts, because the poor memories that exist contaminate revisiting current values. You can adopt a new thematic. Separating old negativities from new positive needs becomes extremely easy in gentler times.
The same with music. I began thinking that it would be good to revisit tunes from back then and chase out the past negative vibes to old songs. Giving those ‘weird old time songs I wrote back then’ a new life basically. In reality though, it would be nice to have my brother Kev playing drums on the songs again.
Anyways, enough of deep diving memories. It will be a case of re-recording this over the next few days. Should be a fun project. An echo of old time memories becoming an echo vibe attached to the simplicity of guitar choice. Bringing past emotions to new stable and manageable devotions.
Cheers all. 🙏🏽🍁🍂
Way back in 1977, the song Innocent Victim, below, was written by myself. The punk vibe is very similar to the song discussed, Audience. Hence the recollections on past sounds and vibes. As an older guy now? A need to slow down is obviously more apt. My bones can’t take this aesthetic any more. The sound below is of extremely low quality. If you attended an XCerts’ gig? You would get this thrown at you!
