Mr. Streetlight, Mr. Bench and the pomp of Mr. Moon.

“I wish I were Mr. Moon, and like a Balloon, could float up in the sky” said Mr. Streetlight to Mr. Bench.

Mr. Bench, an ever presence, a good friend, was always a comfort under and in front of Mr. Streetlight’s one luminous eye.

“If I were high in the sky it would allow me to see so much more than just you yourself Mr. Bench and the odd passer by”.

“The nighttime can only bring the odd passer by, with no stories to tell. They sit on you, Mr. Bench, silently and gratefully and simply look at the simplicity and comfort of Mr and Mrs Grass and their Family who surround us. If I were Mr. Moon, who like a Balloon, can float around on high, I could see the overall exciting view, and so much more too. At night, when my eye is bright, I see only you Mr. Bench, alongside Mr and Mrs Grass and their Family. All within the stretch of night. The daylight? My sight is dimmed and suddenly I live a life of what equates as oblivion”.

“Ah!” said Mr. Bench in reply. “We live in times of topsy-turvy events. Our daytime is sleep time, when to others? It’s their time to invent. It’s their ‘Me Time’ spent. Others’ lives are lived in day’s light, as intense, immense and hopefully in content-meant. And……Mr. Moon. A Balloon? Not at all” said Mr. Bench. “Mr. Moon doesn’t always float there full and immense. Intense in his projection of fullness of light. A light which gives him the ability to view all within his sight. He suffers a strange plight of sometimes being reduced in size. Without light. I’ve seen him, with my own eyes, reduced to a sliver of his former proud exhibition of shiny bright. Sometimes even disappears. Maybe he visits Angels in their flight. Leaves all in darkness. No guiding light. At times like these? Then I should imagine he hardly sees anything at all. Well. Okay…..Mr. Moon sees the shiny bright Angels. They’re probably sprinkling their own light into Mr. Moons own existence. But, yes, he does, without doubt go missing from time to time. Sometimes for nights on end! You yourself, Mr. Streetlight, at least see nightly visions of myself, Mr and Mrs Grass and their Family….. and the odd passer by”

“And by the way” said Mr. Bench. “The odd passer by, that you yourself see in the fullness of the light from your own eye? They only see the view too because of you. The odd passer-by, when darkness surrounds them, has no light within their own eyes. And in times of darkness will oft look within themselves. At grim unwanted realities of unwelcome unlooked for occurrences. Your simple presence is immense” said Mr. Bench. “Because the odd passer by, in the fullness of the light that exists in your life, can suddenly witness the simplicity of what exists in front of their own eyes. In their own life. They too see Mr and Mrs Grass and their Family.

And it may not be akin to the swell of infinity. But in this surrounding immediate simplicity? There is always comfort and delight to be found. Understand this Mr. Streetlight. Mr. Moon, like a Balloon, floats in and out of life’s stories. Sings a strangely different song. One that shouldn’t belong. Sometimes….harsh and out of tune. And too long. The odd passer by can see life’s glories when Mr. Moon chooses to be immense. When his pomp and chest bursting circumstantial presence is in evidence. A wondrous operatic tune bursting forth with gusto. But to all purpose and intent, when Mr. Moon is spent…….a sliver of his former self? It is you, Mr. Streetlight who is the ever present ‘song to be sung’ about. The guiding light. Dependable, always there when required and can exist as the one consistent light to dispel the darkness that can exist in their life”.

Nothing wrong with being a floating operatic Luna Balloon.

But it’s so much nicer being a beautiful bright melody. A consistent Tune.

Mr. Moon in full pomp and glory. The waxing and waning story too.
